Our 4th and 5th grade students traveled to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for the Science Bowl. At the event, students moved between three stations: Fossil Exploration, Dinosaur Discovery, and a Mammal Inquiry Scavenger Hunt. A huge congratulations to Brice, Nicholas, Drake, and Kasen for coming in 1st place out of 30+ teams! Excellent job! We had lots of fun hosting the Primary Literature Festival at Trinity East this year! Prior to the event, students read four books and engaged in extension activities using the English Language Arts standards. At the event, students rotated between five stations:
A huge THANK YOU goes out to our middle school gifted helpers who volunteered their time to help the event to run smoothly. They were excited to earn volunteer hours for National Junior Honor Society and to work with the younger students. Thank you to Cameron, Ethan, Ryan, Nolan, and Elliott for all your hard work! Our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students traveled to Fort Cherry Elementary Center to compete in the America Bowl. Prior to the competition, students studied the states & and capitals, state locations, state nicknames, and fun facts about the states. At the competition, students earned points by building a puzzle of the USA, playing state Pictionary, placing state capitals on the correct states, and answering trivia questions about the states. Team Trinity put forth a lot of effort preparing for the competition and had exceptional teamwork at the competition. Congratulations to Team Trinity for coming in 1st place at the competition! Teams of gifted students from Canon-McMillan, Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry, McGuffey, Trinity, and Washington school districts competed in a grades 4 and 5 Literature Festival at North Strabane Intermediate School on January 19th. Prior to the competition, students read four novels and engaged in enrichment extensions using the English Language Arts standards. At the event, students competed in trivia, vocabulary, mystery items, and a STEM laundry-themed challenge (From Al Capone Does My Shirts!). Readers also had the chance to make an origami bookmark during their snack break. Congratulations to Antonio, Declan, Drake, and Kasen for coming in 1st place at the event! We hosted the Primary Math24 competition at Trinity East on December 12th. First, second, and third-grade gifted students from nearby schools traveled to Trinity East to compete in the fast-paced math game. Congratulations to Rowan for coming in 1st place among the first graders at the competition! Our 6th and 7th grade students traveled to the Carnegie Science Center for the first-ever Judo-Bot Rumble! Students worked in teams to construct a Judo Bot that would compete by battling other Judo Bots. The bots are assembled from four components built separately from one another: the base, the stand, the arm, and the hydraulic system. The hydraulic system uses plastic syringes as pistons and water as the hydraulic fluid. What a great day of learning and fun! Our 4th and 5th grade students traveled to the Heinz History Center to compete in the annual History Bowl competition. Teams of 4 students were challenged to find answers to questions, think and write creatively, and practice problem-solving abilities as they explored the exhibits. Congratulations to Drake, Brice, Nicholas, and Kasen for earning 82 points and coming in 3rd place at the competition! Way to go boys! Range Resources requested student volunteers to assist with their 2000 Turkeys campaign again this year. Our TMS students headed to Main Street in downtown Washington to help raise money! Our students had a lot of fun and collected over $1,000 during our volunteer shift! Check out the news article here!!
We were very excited to welcome professionals from the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) to TMS for a drone presentation. Prior to this, students learned about the history of drones and some of the current debatable issues related to drones. In addition, students built and flew their own drones in the new athletic facility. Thank you to Wesley and his team for helping our students to learn more about the real-life application of drones! Our middle school students headed to WVU to participate in the 34th annual Pumpkin Drop on Oct. 27th! They were tasked with creating a capsule that would protect a pumpkin during an 11-story drop! Sadly, none of our pumpkins survived the drop, but it was a fun way to put the steps of the Engineering Design Process to the test! Check out the videos from the Pumpkin Drop below: |
