The middle school gifted students headed to the Carnegie Science Center to participate in Engineer the Future today. Students were able to explore various careers in engineering as they engaged in hands-on activities and interacted with professionals in the field. Special thanks to EQT for providing grant funding to cover the cost of our admission and bus. Seventh grade English and Social Studies classes collaborated on a cross-curricular research project featuring the first 24 presidents. Students spent weeks researching, creating, and presenting their projects. The top 14 students were selected and presented at the 3rd annual Presidential Showcase! A special congratulations to my students: Rogan, Sienna, Genny, Rebekah, and Allison for making it into the finals! Several of our middle school students participated in the Presidents' Bowl which was hosted at our very own TMS! Thank you to Mr. Walsh and the 8th grade gifted students for planning and organizing this event! Our students competed against gifted students from Avella, Canon-Mac, Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry, McGuffey, & Washington school districts. Congratulations to Ainslee, Malachi, & Rebekah for coming in 2nd place at the competition! Two students competed in the annual Shakespeare Contest at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. Awesome job girls! 4th & 5th grade traveled to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to participate in the Allegheny Intermediate Units’s Wild Investigations program. We started inside the education center where we met and learned about some animals. After that, we headed out into the snow for our scavenger hunt around the zoo. Sixth grade student, Bayleigh Lowe visited Trinity West during the 2nd-5th grade recess blocks. Bayleigh won the 2018 WQED Writers' Contest. Serious writers talked with Bayleigh about the writing process and creative writing. She also shared her winning story. The WQED Writing Contest is open through the end of March for students in grades K-5. Bayleigh will visit Trinity South on February 6th to encourage students to craft a story for the contest. |
