Rotation 1: Wild Wetlands Program in the Lagoon We started with a hands-on water testing activity. Students took water samples from Turtle Pond and tested for pH, phosphate, and nitrate levels. Next we listened to a researcher from Duquesne University present about watersheds. The last portion of this rotation involved creating a scientific journal and making observations. Rotation 2: Phipps Scavenger Hunt Students were tasked with finding various plants from around the gardens. We explored Palm Court, the Stove Room (butterfly room), the Serpentine Room, the Tropical Fruit and Spice Room, and the Tropical Forest Conservatory. Rotation 3: Nature Writing and the Edible Garden Students received instruction on writing techniques, sampled mentor texts, then explored the Edible Garden to find inspiration for creative writing. |
