STEM Challenge Day at McGuffey was full of Halloween fun! Trivia, Spooky Math Mania, Tower of Terror Build, Magic Square Puzzles and a Charades station provided challenges for all! Gifted students from Washington, McGuffey, Avella, Fort Cherry, Chartiers-Houston and Canon-Mac all participated in this fun event! The 4th and 5th grade gifted students had a great day at the Heinz History Center for the AIU's History Bowl. Students moved between various stations including:
At each station, the students had a group task to complete such as creating and answering question that a journalist might ask, completing a scavenger hunt through an exhibit, and writing a newspaper article about an artifact. Congratulations to Gracie, Ben, and Ella for coming in 2nd place at the competition this year! The 7th grade gifted students helped to plan, organize, and volunteer at the first TMS Tailgate on October 4th. There was lots of music, snacks, and fun for all students who attended! We raised over $1,000 for Hiller Holiday Helpers which helps to provide holiday gifts for those in need. The next tailgate is tentatively scheduled for November 15th from 5:30-7:30PM in the TMS Gymnasium.
Gifted students from second, third, and fourth grade traveled to Mingo Creek Park on October 2nd to participate in an Environmental Exploratory. Specialists from Hydrology, Ecology, Engineering, and the Physical Sciences came to help us learn about our environment and answer the big question: How do humans positively and negatively affect the environment? The students visited stations related to Hydrology & Water Testing, Watersheds, Drones & Thermal Sensing Cameras, and the Water Cycle. A special thanks to Mrs. Sill at North Strabane Intermediate School for planning a fun and educational day at Mingo Creek Park! Hello! I'm glad that you've found my blog! I strongly believe it keeping families updated with the happenings of our gifted program. I've done a monthly newsletter for years, and a few years ago, I started to blog. At that time, it seemed that many families still preferred the traditional newsletter. As technology continues to improve, I'm moving away from the monthly newsletter and getting back to blogging. I'm so glad you're joining me on this journey!
