Check out this year's challenging problems and solutions below!
Evan Klick, Zach Cholock, Ryan Lukas, and Daesha Plesko qualified to compete in the championship round of the Powering Pittsburgh competition at Heinz Field! Their idea was to construct a biogas plant by partnering with Crafton Community Farm and convert cow waste into energy. When this organic matter is placed into an anaerobic chamber, methane gas is released and can be converted into energy. Biogas promotes a circular economy, encouraging the use of materials after the normal end of their shelf life. Our group of students did not place in the top two winning spots at the competition, but they put a tremendous amount of effort into bringing their project to life and showcasing their idea. Well done! Check out the Steeler website for a video about the competition! |
