3rd grade gifted students traveled to McGuffey High School to participate in a day of STEM Challenges! The challenges this year included a trivia challenge, a math scavenger hunt, a marble build challenge, logic puzzles, and a Who Am I? puzzle. Trinity was on a team with Fort Cherry and they dubbed themselves, "Fort Trinity!" It was a great day of learning and fun! Sixth and seventh grade gifted students traveled to Waynesburg University for the Powering Pittsburgh Competition. Students were tasked with creating a cleaner, safer, more energy efficient method of powering Heinz Field and/or the great city of Pittsburgh. Research was conducted, presentations planned, and models constructed before students presented their ideas to the judges at the regional competition. Congratulations to Andy, Malachi, Genny, and Morgan for coming in 1st place with their project, Pittsburgh Pedals! They will compete at the championship round at Heinz Field on November 19th. Best of luck!! The 6th grade gifted students are excited to organize the American Flags fundraiser to recognize those who have served in the Armed Forces while raising money for Trinity’s K9 Officer Hiller fund. I can’t wait to see their leadership skills emerge throughout this project! Our 3rd and 4th grade gifted students traveled to Mingo Creek Park to participate in a special STEM Exploratory program. Students learned about STEM connections, environmental literacy, and community connections as they moved through hands-on stations and worked with local scientists! The stations included printmaking with natural materials, watersheds, water quality testing, macroinverterbrates study, and mindfulness in nature. Students also worked as a team and debated whether different types of trash could be recycled, re-purposed, reused, or needed to go to a landfill. |
